Shawano cares about critters started a Facebook group to serve as a resource center for those that care about animals in the Shawano area. They wanted to share everything from Vet recommendations, lo-cost spay and neuter services and information on shelters. Most importantly, they wanted to network with likeminded people to share their knowledge and resources. However, they found the greatest need is the plight of the barn cat. So they turned their attention to that. As word spread, they started receiving reports of inhumane atrocities the barn cats in their area were suffering. So by using the resources we compiled, they started spaying, neutering and rehoming those cats in the greatest way possible need. TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) as it is called is proving to be the way to control the cat population whereas the old ways of euthanasia are proving ineffective. The numbers of cats that have been spayed and neutered with their help continues to grow.
